Three homes in Leiden have joined forces and chosen BENGglas. The old single-pane glass was replaced with BENGglas Extra Clear, which has a U-value of 0.50. That’s an improvement of no less than a factor of 11.6 in glass insulation! As a result, heat loss is reduced by approximately 91%. Because BENGglas Extra Clear is very clear in color, there is no visible difference in the shade of the glass. Where necessary, a BENGglas vacuum glass pane was combined with a secondary window. This neatly preserved the building’s original appearance and saved on the cost of new window frames. The result? Up to 50 years of durable glass insulation.

Whereas residents previously complained about drafts and high energy bills, thanks to BENGglas they are now assured of excellent glass insulation with a U-value of 0.50, lasting up to 50 years. Because the glass is only 8.3 mm thick, the existing window frames could be retained. This allowed the residents to save on the cost of new frames while preserving the original appearance of their home.

For this project, BENGglas® Hybrid Double Coated was selected, featuring a U-value of 0.38 W/m²K and a g-value of 0.39. The glass was installed using thermally broken spacers and, according to a new BENG calculation, was found to more than meet all requirements. This is particularly noteworthy because the 26-year-old Kloosterman profiles could be retained, even though they provide less insulation than modern window frames. Additional requirements for burglary resistance and fire safety were also met. For the section requiring EW30/EI15 compliance, PyroVac® Hybrid EW30/EI15 was used, developed in collaboration with Pyroguard.

For the contractor, the uniform glass thickness was a major advantage. For each window frame brand, BENGglas® Hybrid could be installed at the same thickness as the existing standard double-pane glass, eliminating the need for major modifications to the frames. In total, this involved six 40-foot containers of glass, the majority of which was assembled on LandGlass’s production lines in China. The fire-resistant glazing was manufactured by Pyroguard in France. At 1,900 m², Universe is the largest European project using hybrid vacuum glass for LandVac and clearly demonstrates the wide range of applications for BENGglas in large-scale renovations.

Huize Heyendael, originally built as a villa and later used by Radboud University, is one of Nijmegen's most iconic historic buildings. This national monument will soon be upgraded with BENG glass, combining sustainability and preservation of its appearance.

BENGglas Extra Clear was chosen for this project, the clearest variant with an impressive U-value of 0.50. It is particularly important to preserve the color and appearance of monumental buildings. The installation is handled by De Bresser, an experienced specialist with more than 90 years of experience in maintenance and restoration of special buildings.

In The Hague, De Grote Pyr - a former school from the early 20th century - is being given a new future as a lively residential and commercial building. A characteristic building where residents and entrepreneurs come together, while maintaining its recognizable appearance.

BENG glass is being applied here in phases as part of a multi-year sustainability approach. The first phase has been completed and the next is already planned. In this way, the building will be improved step by step, with more comfort and better insulation, while retaining its monumental character.

A residential farmhouse in Ruinerwold has been fitted with BENG glass Single Coated (U=0.40), installed by Schildersbedrijf Donker. The residents first took a look at another home where BENG glass had already been installed. The positive experiences they heard and felt there made an immediate impression. That was the deciding factor. Their farmhouse has now also been fitted with BENG glass and they can experience the difference for themselves: noticeably more comfort in their home and a solution that perfectly suits this beautiful farmhouse.
