Restoration

Historic buildings restored with glass that even new construction would envy

BENGglas is the solution for historic buildings that want to be ready for the future without altering their appearance. Where double glazing or triple glazing is often too thick or too heavy, BENGglas is so thin that it fits right into the existing window frames.

The result? Up to three times better insulation than double glazing, without having to compromise the building’s appearance. You’ll save significantly on energy, the interior stays warm (or cool) longer, and outside noise is noticeably reduced.

Does your building still have that distinctive drawn glass with a slight wave pattern? Then choose BENGglas Monu or BENGglas Monu Restover!

Perfect for:

  • National Historic Landmarks
  • Historic city centers
  • Repurposing of churches, farms, and mansions

Heritage in the Energy Transition: Character Remains, Energy Loss Disappears

Monuments and historic heritage are inextricably linked to our culture and history. But it is precisely these buildings that are often the biggest energy guzzlers. Traditional single-pane glass allows cold and heat to pass through easily, resulting in high energy costs and low comfort levels. Making these buildings more sustainable is therefore urgently needed—but without compromising the building’s character.

Unfortunately, double glazing or triple glazing is often too thick or too heavy. And because the window frame usually cannot be modified to preserve the original appearance, standard insulating glass is simply not an option.

BENGglas offers the solution.
At just 8.3 mm thick, BENGglas’s vacuum glazing is extremely thin, lightweight, and fits into virtually any historic window frame. And with a U-value starting at 0.35, it offers twice the insulation of triple glazing and even three times that of double glazing.

This allows us to provide a much-needed solution for protected heritage sites, buildings with character, and structures that require careful restoration.
Without compromising the appearance, but with impressive performance: superior insulation, more comfortable living, and an expected lifespan of no less than 50 years.

Heritage glass with BENGglas Monu

Are you looking for old historic or drawn glass?

BENGglas Monu is combined with an additional historic backing pane.
This backing pane—also known as heritage glass—can be recognized by its characteristic, slightly wavy surface. This traditional glass-drawing technique was widely used in the 19th and early 20th centuries and is commonly found in historic buildings and protected heritage sites. When renovating or restoring such buildings, preserving this authentic feature is often a requirement of historic preservation.

By combining BENGglas with an additional 4-mm-thick historic backing pane, it is now possible to maximize the energy efficiency of these protected buildings as well, with an impressive U-value of up to 0.50! By comparison: traditional (double-pane) heritage glass achieves, depending on the construction, a U-value between 1.5 and 5.6. With BENGglas, you can therefore improve energy efficiency many times over.

Lifespan is another key advantage: BENGglas has an expected lifespan of up to 50 years.

With BENGglas, you make a difference—even in historic heritage buildings.

Additional subsidy for national monuments

With the Investment Subsidy for Sustainable Energy and Energy Savings (ISDE), you’ll receive a generous subsidy toward making your home more sustainable with BENGglas:

- €25 per m² if you replace only the glass with BENGglas (Report Code: KA18780)
- €111 per m² if you replace both the glass and the window frames (Reference code: other)
- €46 per m² for glass replacement with BENGglas in national historic monuments

And it gets even better: if you combine this with additional insulation measures, such as roof or floor insulation, the subsidy amount is actually doubled! Not sure if your home is a national historic landmark? You can easily check on RVO.nl.

Are you a business owner looking to make your commercial property more sustainable?
Through the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA), you can benefit from a tax credit of up to €300 per m². Please note: the investment must be at least €2,500 . Don’t forget to apply for the EIA within three months of installation via the eLoket on RVO.nl.

What are the benefits of vacuum glazing?

BENGglas: The Future of Insulating Glass

Vacuum glazing is a revolutionary solution that goes beyond traditional insulating glass. BENGglas offers unmatched benefits for both the environment and your living comfort, making it an ideal choice for sustainable construction projects and renovations.

Unmatched Insulation
BENGglas has an exceptional U-value starting at 0.35 W/m²K, making it twice as efficient as triple-pane glass (0.70) and three times better than double glazing (1.10). This results in less energy loss, lower energy costs, and a much more comfortable home that stays pleasant in both winter and summer.

Consistent Performance in All Positions
Many types of insulating glass lose their effectiveness when installed at an angle, but BENGglas performs excellently regardless of the installation angle. This makes it ideal for sloped skylights or other challenging applications where other types of glass may perform less effectively.

Long-Term Durability
Unlike standard glass, which typically needs to be replaced after 25 years, BENGglas has a lifespan of up to 50 years. This means you’ll need to replace your windows less often, which not only saves money but also reduces CO₂ emissions from glass production.

Excellent Sound Insulation
BENGglas offers excellent sound insulation, with a rating of 36 to 42 dB. This significantly outperforms double glazing (31 dB) and triple glazing (33 dB), allowing you to enjoy a quieter home. Ideal for homes along busy roads or in urban environments.

Year-Round Comfort, Without Fluctuations
Thanks to the thermal efficiency of BENGglas, your home stays at a comfortable temperature all year round. In the summer, it keeps the heat out, while in the winter it keeps the heat in—without drafts or temperature fluctuations.

Condensation Is Not a Problem
BENGglas features an innovative edge seal that prevents condensation from forming on the inside of your windows. This not only keeps your windows clear but also prevents moisture problems and mold growth in your home.

Perfect for Renovations
At just 8.3 mm thick, BENGglas is thinner and lighter than traditional insulating glass, allowing it to fit seamlessly into existing window frames. This saves on the cost of replacing window frames and makes renovations easier and faster.

A Sustainable Choice for the Future
If the entire Netherlands were to switch to BENGglas, it would save up to 4.1 metric tons of CO₂ per year—equivalent to the CO₂ emissions from 170,000 car trips from Amsterdam to Paris. The production of BENGglas itself is also environmentally friendly, with annual CO₂ savings of 24,000 metric tons thanks to green energy and a more efficient production process.

A Smart Long-Term Investment
BENGglas not only provides excellent insulation and enhances living comfort, but it also increases the value of your home and contributes to a better energy rating. This makes it an investment that pays for itself quickly, both in terms of savings and home value.

With its advanced technology, long lifespan, and positive impact on the environment, BENGglas is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to invest in a more sustainable, energy-efficient, and comfortable home.

The huge CO₂ gain from mass switching to BENG glass: this is what it really delivers!

If all of the Netherlands switches to BENG glass, we realize structural CO₂ savings of as much as 4.1 megatons per year - that's equivalent to 170,000 car trips from Amsterdam to Paris! In production alone, BENG glass saves over 24,000 tons of CO₂ annually . For an average home, BENG glass means a saving of 1,800 kg of CO₂ per year, which over 50 years can increase to as much as 90,000 kg of CO₂ per home. BENG glass thus contributes directly to achieving our climate goals: it can achieve more than 8% of the CO₂ reduction in the built environment by 2030 and help the Netherlands become climate neutral by 2050. It's not just any glass, it's a revolution in sustainable building.
