What is the U-value, and why is it important?
The U-value indicates how well glass insulates. Simply put: the lower the U-value, the better the glass retains heat in the winter—and keeps it out in the summer. This helps you save on your energy bill and increases your comfort at home.
The U-value is influenced by a variety of factors, such as:
- The coating on the glass
- The filling between the glass panes (e.g., air, gas, or a vacuum)
- The cavity width —that is, the space between the glass panes
How does BENGglas compare to other types of glass?
Here is an overview of the average U-values by glass type:
- Single-pane glass: 5.8 (Insulation? Hardly.)
- Double-pane glass (Thermopane): 2.8
- Double glazing: 1.10
- Triple glazing: 0.70
- Other types of vacuum glass: between 0.45 and 0.70
- BENGglas: from 0.35 to 0.50
In short: BENGglas has by far the best insulation value of them all.
This way, you’ll save even more on your energy bill!
*U-values measured according to standards EN 674:2011 and ISO 19916-1:2018 by ift Rosenheim (2025).
